NEW! The Green Home Program —In today’s environmentally conscious world, consumers are more interested than ever in green products and services. With government incentives, industry advertising, and a growing desire to reduce our environmental footprint, going green is an appealing option for many homeowners! With our new Green Home Program, offered thru The Travelers Indemnity Company, customers can add an extra layer of protection to their home or condo policy that can help them repair or rebuild with green materials and methods in the event of a covered loss. Homeowners with a home already certified green can save 5% on insurance premiums. |
The Green Home Program can be used for total and partial losses. This means that if a homeowner has a covered loss in their kitchen and they want to repair it with green materials and methods, we can help. Example — There is a kitchen fire with $20,000 in covered expenses to the home and appliances. Coverage — The Green Home coverage will allow up to an additional $2,000 (10% of the amount payable for repairs) for green materials (i.e. Energy Star appliances, zero VOC paint, etc.) or methods. The Green Home Program offers the following —
How much does the GreenHome Upgrade cost?
What is LEED certification? Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Certificate — LEED certification provides independent, third-party verification that a building project is environmentally responsible. How do customers get LEED certified?
What do I need to provide to secure the discount? Customers will need to provide a copy of the LEED certificate to secure the discount. Do I get a discount for my Energy Star home? To receive the discount, a home must be LEED certified. Why doesn’t Energy Star certification qualify for the Green Home discount? LEED is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. As such, the insurance industry typically uses it as the standard for green-related products and services. Do I have to have the Green Home discount in order to buy the endorsement? No, the discount and endorsement are independent of one another. The discount is for customers who are already certified green by LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). The endorsement will give a customer additional coverage to repair or rebuild with green materials and/or methods in the event of a covered loss to their home. Are there any specific underwriting criteria for Green Home coverage? No, if the risk is eligible for our homeowners and condo programs offering this coverage, the Green Home coverage may be added, providing the policy also includes the Personal Property Replacement Cost Loss Settlement coverage. How much is the Green Home Discount? Customers can save 5% on their homeowner premium, excluding Valuable Items Plus, identity fraud expense coverage, personal liability supplement (PLUS) and earthquake.
